Hrant Kalantaryan

Sculptor and artist of Merit of the Republic of Armenia

“My source of inspiration has been Eduard Ter-Ghazaryan (in his microminiature), a master of carving, musician, and honoured artist of the Republic of Armenia art, who carved in the needle eye. I have turned the needle into a carving tool.”

Hrant Kalantaryan was born in 1993 in Choratan village in the Tavush region. He studied at the educational complex of the Mkhitaryan Monastery of Armenia, and from 2012, he continued his studies at the Mkhitaryan Monastery in Venice.

• Between 2001 and 2012, he engaged in painting, sculpture and engraving.
• Since 2014, he has also dedicated to pottery making.
• In 2017, he founded the company “Kalantaryan Handmade Production”. The company produces Armenian clay and porcelain ornaments and bas-reliefs.

The bas-reliefs are carved exclusively with a needle. Hrant Kalantaryan has had many individual and group exhibitions.
